Walter Beasley | Ready For Love
By Ian Cooke

Walter Beasley, a pioneer contemporary jazz artist, made his recording debut 10 years ago and celebrates with his latest release “Ready For Love.” He has proven his success as an instrumentalist, vocalist, composer, producer, and educator- a range of talents that has made him one of the highest selling, and most accomplished African-American saxophonists of the last ten years!

“Ready For Love” is filled with a variety of soulful grooves and infectious melodies that showcases the countless satisfying shades of Beasley’s rich musical tapestry. Opening with “Free”, The Deniece Williams penned melody, features the vocal accents of Tiffany Davis. Beasley brings, not only his horn, but also his rich vocals to the backbeat groove of “Be Thankful,” the classic William DeVaughn piece.

Eight producers are credited on this disc and keyboardist James Lloyd (Pieces Of A Dream) lends a helping hand on a couple of tracks. The title track-along with the punchy “Why Not You,” Lloyd also worked with Mr. Beasley on Track # 5, now placed on the smooth jazz charts, “Coolness.”

“She Moves Me,” offers an island groove which takes Beasley into territory he has not explored on other projects. “Sugar Puddin,” is a sensual track wherein Beasley’s alto sax work provides the perfect union of sweet with the spice!

Ready For Love, is a well-crafted, excellent quality recording that deserves to be in your collection of smooth jazz.
