Reel People – Seven Ways To Wonder

Honestly I really do not know what to say about this group. Their last cd was off the chain! This one, when I first listened to it, it didn’t impress me that much. So I took a drive to Galveston, Texas (45 minutes from Houston), and the more I listened to it, the better it got. This CD has a soulful sound that goes back to Stevie Wonder. And then there’s a couple of tracks that have that Brand New Heavies and Jamiroquai sound to it. But what got me was how much the cd sounds like early Incognito. (Not because three vocalists from Incognito are on it, nah that’s not it). This cd has a range of artists from Omar, Vanessa Freeman, Joy Rose, Tony Momrelle, and speaking of Tony Momrelle – he is the lead singer for Incognito – to Joy Rose (Incognito) and Imanni (Incognito and Paul Hardcastle)..all have solo projects out. I really do not know what it is with groups from London (UK). Their groove is undeniable! Their sound is soulful, and you can dance to it! It started a long time ago with some of the modern rock groups in the eighties. Hence the blue eyed soul movement – Robert Palmer, Ebn Ozn, Johnnie Hates Jazz, Kane Gang, Living In A Box. Then came Loose Ends, Soul to Soul, Caron Wheeler, Brand New Heavies, Jamiroquai and others who brought that soul flavored groove to America.

This a good cd to listen to. Like i said, the more you listen to it, the better it gets. And the Japanese Edition comes with two bonus tracks. Also, make sure you pick up their first album, “Second Guess.”

If you want to get a feel for the group, here’s a video for your pleasure:
