Eric Darius | Goin’ All Out

Eric Darius - Goin' All Out

When Eric Darius was a young buck, he took the jazz community by surprise with his release of “Night on the Town”. Critics’ raved; old and young jazz listeners gave him props. With his awesome talent and unjaded enthusiasm, he has become the undisputed darling of the genre. His next album, “Just Getting Started” is a superb sophomore effort, jam-packed with tight tunes and swingin’ grooves. With tracks produced by and featuring Brian Culbertson, Euge Groove, Jeff Lorber and Paul Brown, made a bold statement that this jazz star is well on his way to the top.

The newest meal Eric has served up is titled “Goin’ All Out.” Entering this project with the bar already set at a high level, Eric did a great job of setting the tone and building on it. The first track “Just Like That” was an upbeat jam to get the party started. To appeal to all generations Eric has incorporated some of our R&B hits of today like the next track “Because of You” by Ne-Yo. I really enjoyed the way each song flows into the other. The title track “Goin All Out” is off the hook, guaranteed to get your head bobbin’.

Every song highlights the true talent that Eric was blessed with. I really appreciate the fact the covers “Be Without You” by Mary J. Blige and “Unconditional” were done without vocals. This jam packed cd also comes with a Latin style groove “Feelin Da Rhythm”. This cd shows great versatility.

You can really get a feel that Eric Darius has learned from his mentors that assisted him along the way. “Goin All Out” really solidifies the fact Eric is here to stay. I really get the feel he will achieve his goal of reaching some of our young people who are musically challenged and looking for a little direction. It’s rare you come across a disc that jams on every track, but I have to give it up, this jams from start to finish.
