Dave Hollister | The Book Of David: The Transition Vol. 1

Dave Hollister - The Book of DavidDave Hollister | The Book of David: The Transition, Vol. 1 By Terrill Hanna

R&B Street cred Dave Hollister returns with an offering more designed to ‘return’ the favor to God Almighty than to himself. The head knockin’ beats are still privalent, although the lyrics has changed. Much to his fans delight, he is not missing a beat when it comes time to get the listener to hear his message. Dave, I believe, has been dealing with choices in his musical career – and those choices lead him ultimately to a refreshing project for Urban Gospel!

Dave speaks out loud & clear about inner struggles with “So Many Scars”; “Pray (Till Get An Answer)” lays it out there plain & simple – Trust in Prayer!; He also dives into reality for many when he discusses a difficult aspect of Divorce in “The Settlement”, I hope it wasn’t anything he actually went through, although the song speaks a great majority of those who have been there, done that….; “Where Are You?/Answer Me” leaves a trademark interlude that Dave oftens leave on the listener from his various discographies – less than a minute of music to get a point across (track time); The rest is recommended, no doubt. I’ll leave it right there!

Nah….wait a minute: “The Potter” has to be my favorite (written by Andre Crouch). Ok, Thats it!

This album also had some great productions from Dave, Shep Crawford, Warryn “Baby Dubb” Campbell, Jesse Wright, DeJion, Paul Allen & Walter Kearney.

“The Book of David” may very well be just a scratch on the surface for Mr. Hollister, although I ultimately believe this project serves it’s purpose as being Dave’s overall love letter to God. His personal testimony of Faith & Healing AND his ability to go back to his compositional roots foretells how blessed he really is to carry out this gift. Its the many reasons why I would highly recommend the disc.

I also hope for another book from Mr. Hollister down the line…
