Gerald Levert | In My Songs
Gerald Levert | In My Songs By Terrill HannaIn Memory to one of the greatest, passionate R&B Crooners of all time….
“In My Songs” is the last release prior to Gerald’s passing. With the interlude to the title track given to us by Mr. Eddie Levert, this project continues the legacy of someone very serious about speaking on the behalf of the world involving romantic love songs & sentimental compositions. Although much of todays’ generation will possibly only remember him as the lead singer to “Levert”, much of the old-school listeners can certainly agree – when Gerald went solo….IT WAS ON!
These musical pleasures will certainly delight you, that’s of course if you want to create an evening ambiance. The title track, again, is a crooning delight; “I Don’t Get Down Like That” is exactly that. Straight groovin’ mid-tempo….; He turns up that tempo though to “DJ Don’t”, yeah, how many times when we are groovin our tails off that the DJ somehow slips the needle on the turntable (if you know what I mean…); I appreciated “Hang In There”, both the lyrics & the beat. Check it. It kind of takes you back to his “Do I Speak For The World” project (That CD was tight too!).
The remaining songs were great, but not too much in similar fashion as his earlier CD’s, including the “LSG” albums. At this point, it really doesn’t matter because his voice, every time I hear it, is something to be cherished. In fact, the idea of seeing him sing these new ballads & his past classics are now a distant memory. I can only get that vision down the road – though – of him lacing the stage & seeing the Ladies lose their mind!
That’s the lasting impression I will keep of Mr. Gerald Levert (1966-2006).
