Night School – An Evening With Stanley Clarke & Friends (DVD)
Stanley Clarke is back on the scene & is carrying with him, a very dynamic & powerful approach on the stage. All you need is a comfortable seat, a special glass of something chilled & the opportunity to view the list of talent that came out to play with him in only 1 night!!
Karen Briggs, Brian Bromberg, Gerry Brown, Bunny Bruner, Ndugu Chancler, Stewart Copeland, Sheila E., Bela Fleck, Flea, Rodney Franklin, Rayford Griffin, Stewart Hamm, Paul Jackson Jr., Jimmy Johnson, Benny Maupin, Marcus Miller (Yes….MARCUS!), Wallace Roney (Trumpet Supreme), Patrice Rushen (What??), Armand Sabal-Lecco, Billy Sheehan, Michael Thompson, Wayman Tisdale, Lenny White (The Legendary R&B man!), Stevie Wonder (Yes!!) & Many Others….ALL IN ONE NIGHT TO GROOVE WITH STANLEY CLARKE!
This should be a no-brainer. In fact, as you glide down one of those aisles of either Fry’s Electronics, Best Best or Circuit City….the minute you see the DVD cover with all names mentioned from above should immediately cause you to STOP! HOLD UP! Snatch it off the shelf, & keep going on about your business.
This DVD should hold court for the new school, as well as for the old because of the great memories of songs Stanley had graced us with, especially with “The Theme from Boyz ‘N The Hood”. Man, oh Man….right after that sequence comes “Big Jam” & the amount of times I pressed the rewind button to catch as many glimpses of Sheila E. getting down on the percussion as I possibly can! Heh Sheila….GO BABY!
Do y’all remember “School Days”? How about “Wild Dog”?
The only icing that was left off the huge cake being baked that night was the essence of George Duke. Could it be that they may have a DVD in the works feat just those 2 (Stanley & George)?
The amount of musical presence featured at the Musicians Institute is too much to explain. I’m wasting no time here, you can be rest assured of it!
And to see Sinbad (host) back at work brought memories of his stints’ doing the Old School, HBO, R&B concerts series (Heh Man, Please bring those concerts BACK!!)
Check y’all later…
