Pamela Williams | The Look of Love
Pamela Williams | The Look of Love By Terrill Hanna
The Saxtress is Back!
This time she sheds her inner interests for covers unlike hit song selections from compilations. She returns to honor music from a fan standpoint: Remaking the sounds & productions of Hal David, Burt Bacharach & legendary R&B vocalist, Ms. Dionne Warwick.
From the offset, please take note that not only Pamela came to shine off the golden sax, but also to put in some studio time in the production dept. In the making, or the recreation of these melodies, Ms. Williams shares some sentimental moments in how she appreciated the music given, the respect shared & the inspiration behind bringing it! (See liner notes…)
Overall, you will appreciate some great jazz here. “Alfie” was a song of choice; “Walk On By” simply took me down memory lane as to the day Ms. Warwick created great memories; The others all-together, ultimately, will bring some whirlwind of a timetable to you. It reminds you of the days of which Burt & Hal had really put out some great compositions before many of our times! And how well it STILL stands the test of time!
When, however, “A House Is Not A Home” came at the final stretch, the reminder of another legendary balladeer came to mind & vastly made me reconstruct how well his remix/his cover quickly surpassed Dionne’s. Why? Name someone else you know who would blow circles, vocally, around the same song as did Luther Vandross???
Let’s move right along…
Great choice for the song selections, for it added something different to the flavor Shanachie has brought in its ‘old school covers’ series among the roster of talent from their label! Pamela stretched out the sax in all of the songs, in regards to its inner solo musical requirements. It simply means – The more you listen, the more you will enjoy!
Later.
