Lori Dow | Love Changes
Lori Dow | Love Changes by Marv D
Not since New Edition has there been a major force in the R&B field, coming out of Boston, MA. At the age of 9, her talents were revealed and yet she has kept her dream alive by doing what she does well…Sing. She has opened for Jean Carne, Andre Ward, and Regina Belle. She takes her inspiration from God and her family and is easily influenced by the voices of Yolanda Adams, Teena Marie, Chaka Khan and Whitney Houston. Her style clearly reflects the influences that she describes. Her name is Lori Dow and her latest effort is aptly titled “Love Changes.”
For this independent artist and executive producer, Lori has put together a CD that embodies the soul, which we all have been waiting to hear. The sultry, lucid voice will have you clinging for more. Remember the albums back in 80’s that were not considered new jack swing? Anita Baker (Rapture), Stephanie Mills (If I were your Woman) and many more? This CD reminds me of that kind of vibe, but with an updated sound.
Lori does a beautiful job on cover songs, “He loves me” (Jill Scott) with a spoken word by Omekongo Dibinga, and “Love no limit” (Mary J.Blige) with a touch of jazz with saxophone great, Curtis Warren. The title song “Love Changes” is a smooth mid-tempo song with a catchy hook that had me singing. Other mid-tempo songs are “Patience”, “Can’t Nobody”, “Love Again”, & “I Love The Way” featuring rap sensation Omega Red. Lori also slows it down with “Until I Found You (A song written by Lori Dow and Terry Gresham)”, “Make Time”, “Heaven Only Knows”, and the gospel song “Dear Lord” written by Lori Dow and gospel artist Montez Cardwell, who is also featured on this track.
Serving as executive producer Lori Dow along with Producer Felix Mwangi of 12th Note Productions – (Lori’s producer and owner of the studio where she recorded this project), they have put together a magnificent team of writers and musicians to convey the musical message from paper to cd. This CD has been in rotation since I received it and also has been getting quite a bit of airplay in the United Kingdom. Solarradio.com and many others radio stations in the UK have played this cd so much that is has gained the number 5 spot on the Sweet Rhythms Charts. (Just in – Her CD is now #1 in the U.K.!! 9/2/08)
I’ve enjoyed every song on this cd and I’m sure you will as well. Some of you might want to call it Neo-soul because of the rap and spoken word, but it’s not Neo-soul – it’s just good R&B music.
You can find this album for song samples & purchase at CDBaby!
