Amy Serrata

Listen to “Hello World” from the Amy Serrata debut album on our New Voices of Today Page by clicking here!!

There is something about the way great jazz & soul music collides together to form a union of sounds only a creative singer could take & use as a platform to introduce themselves. As unique as I found Amy Serrata’s debut album, is as distinctive this treasure will leave its mark. I was impressed with the productions, the total vibe & polished poetic skills in the songwriting dept. Just a little vocal taste of Amy Serrata will get your attention, no doubt. This includes help in the production & vocal coach dept from R&B vocalist Brandy Norwood’s father, Willie Norwood.

~ In My Garden
~ Yes To Life

The 1:15 minute opening selection of “This Is Me” is right on point – This is indeed Amy Serrata. The crackling bass line to start of “Monday Morning” along with Amy’s seamless vocal appeal was tasty, while “Hello World” provides the backdrop of Neo-Soul textures & allows Amy to fly away with a swinging melody & a memorable hook ‘-Hello world….here I am today….what do you have for me today?‘.

“Skin” has a hard boppin’, hip-hop rhythm collaborate with a versatile trumpet arrangement to show Amy’s vocal creativity. The conga-led “Lets” was on the strength, again with a very simple melody & tight head noddin’ beat.

The disc does take on some serious subject matters, such as the  catchy lyrical content for “My Baby My Child” & “Teach Me” where the lyrics involve growth & evolution. Amy wanted her listeners to feel the emotion of confidence, experiences & uplifting messages throughout the disc. And yes folks, she brought it out.

“Soul Food” was one of my fav’s on the disc. I dug the ultimate groove live & the lyrical content. The other tracks, “Rooted”, “In My Garden”, “Yes To Life” & the last two were diverse & different in the way the musical production utilized the essence of Jazz & Hip-Hop & transformed Amy’s voice into a adoring measure of excellence. Especially grabbing the volume control to “Love Another” with that sick back beat…

There were some challenges overall in listening to the debut CD. It took awhile for the tracks to settle in, having to play back some a few times just to get the overall message & feel the tracks intended to leave on ya’. But I did like this offering. Ms. Seratta, with the help of Mr. Norwood, pulled out something unique, which could be telling for the new listeners over a period of time.
