They say that “You Can’t Buy Love” huh?

According to the perspective given from new upcoming filmmaker Sonja Dunson, “If you are in love, ever been in love, or looking for love, you must purchase this cd.”

The Motion Picture Soundtrack to Ms. Dunson’s “You Can’t Buy Love” stimulates that certain question in mind. Each of the 7 tracks provided from the short list are primarily titled & addressed to focus on those emotional, sensitive needs often underwritten in various love stories of this magnitude. On the big screen. Although Ms. Dunson executive produced the entire project, as well as wrote & co-written 2 songs from the soundtrack, the message delivered should easily give into notion the overall intention & meaning for the screenplay of the movie. A movie about encountering challenges between an interracial couple & the challenges stemming from the relationship.

As for the music itself, it leans on the storied, styled old school sound. Traditional soul touches with reflection to meaningful, sensitive lyrics about love. Ms. Dunson provides some support for her own soundtrack by writing the title track, “You Can’t Buy Love”, and while co-writing “So Much Feeling In your Love”, performed graciously by Talmadge Armstrong. “Mrs. Love Loves Mr. Wrong”, performed by Butch Dubarri, tickles a touch of the Country/Bluesy music genre, while “Your Lovin’ Is So Real” comes off as strong as one of those classic slow jam R&B favorites everyone can relate to. “Flicker of Hope” keeps the midnight oil burnin’ too.

A nice selection of songs, but many were far too short in recording. “So Much Feelin’ (In Your Love)” should have gone a few more minutes. Perhaps my best pick out of the 7 song set. But considering the budget it had cost Ms. Dunson to produce the movie – $120,000 – , it’s enough to explain the lack there of. From that perspective, I have to rate it 3+ stars for effort & creativity. It’s a start in the right direction. And it’s ALWAYS great to hear some positive, lyrically induced, passionately delivered soul music again.
