Well, taking a chance to get into more current music than writing mostly about Back In The Day projects, I suppose Chicago’s very own Danny Boy’s “It’s About Time” will make my entrance to this reviews blog a little bit more comfortable. You see, good R&B music is what I am all about anyways, and Danny’s new album fits the script.

“It’s About Time” came clean with 15 songs, great productions from Hip Hop’s big producer D.J. Quik, member of hit making group Jodeci, Devante & a stream of laid-back, mid-tempo unreleased gems that never found the light of day until now. A great voice, but never given the chance to prove himself, now has a microphone given to him at the podium and all Danny has to do is STEP UP TO IT.

Mind you, the album is on Death Row Records, known for a lot of big Hip-Hop Records. This album may change a little aspect about their game. Just Maybe.I got to give it to Mr. Danny Boy Steward on this one. Very smooth, naturally channeled with appealing lyrics & a strong groove line in just about every track provided for the disc. I digged “Blow Your Mind” with its funk induced pitch & deep bass line jammin’ “How Many Times” – with Danny giving his recognition to Gospel music lovers in the lyrics.  Skip on to “Between Me & U” & peep it out. Not only because the slow groove is in full effect, but to check the ‘talk box/vocoder’ – background vocals of the late Roger Troutman. It was like listening to some of Roger’s older stuff again. I think most of you are gonna feel this one. “Break You Off” keeps the mood of the disc flowing. Appreciation is admired when listening to the short set of “Church Interlude”, and all you have to do is listen.I added “Can I Come Over”, “Just Ride”, “If U Don’t Mind”, & “It’s All About U” to my fav’s with a quickness. Devante sent a reminder of the ‘Jodeci’ sound on 3 of those 4 tracks. DJ. Quik ignited the got darn speaker system with “Steppin'” – straight up bangin’…., you’ll see.

It’s been a long cry for a young man who first appeared on the urban music scene back in ’94 for slow jam, “Slip-N-Slide”, but for those of you who waited on the sidelines to see if Danny’s career would ever blossom into something, well guess what: “It’s About Time” might just do it for him. I suggest you snatch this one come April 20th, 2010. I digged almost all of the tracks, with a very few that didn’t fit my tastes. It’s been a long time for the cat, but it was worth the wait. Now, let me mo’ssey on back to the old school blog (Back In The Day page/blog).
