E.L. Mahon – Scatterbrain

E.L. Mahon was born in Fargo, Arkansas; he is classically trained on oboe and credited with being the first black and one of the youngest members of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra at the age of 13. He performed in and was band leader of top 40/r&b bands from the mid 1970’s to late 1991. Although his bands performed the club {chittlin} circuit, college & university frat & sorority gigs, they also performed on military bases including Hawaii, Guam, Japan, Puerto Rico, Korea, The Philippines and Panama, and has opened for such notables as Roy Ayers, Chaka Khan, Frankie Beverly & Maze and Bobby Blue Bland.

E.L.’s latest project is call “Scatterbrain” is a wonderful collection of well crafted soulful breezy songs, that are well written and produced and recorded by E.L. the songs “Ocean View, Day Break, 3 Wishes, Whatever you want” are wonderfully layered mid tempo songs, the song “ Walk with me” is a nice slow song, that is sure to make the quiet storm format. E.L. incorporates some funk in the tracks “Scatterbrain and Hurry up and wait” and the other songs “yea but” and a “whole lot of stupid going on” round out this cd.

This is a beautiful cd to listen to anytime of the day or night or just crusin around. I recommend you pick this up for your collection and while you’re at it, pick up his other releases. “Reflections”, “Another Day”, “Road Trip”, “Beyond Infinity”, Contemporary Jazz at www.cdbaby.com or his website http://www.nuevisionjazz.com/
