Shakatak | Afterglow
Shakatak has been in the jazz scene for at least 25 years or more. I first heard of them after I got out the military.
In 1982 since they came with an album called “Down on the street”, I have been a major fan since. It’s to the point now that Shakatak has released so many albums/cds with the majority being overseas. It’s hard to collect all of them in original form, because when they release a cd here in the United States, theres also songs from other Cd’s that are overseas, and even then the cd is a hit over here. Shakatak is at the point in their career, and if you follow Shakatak like I do, they’re are releasing a cd every year or so and have been doing that for about 5 years + now. Even though new cds are released a cd a year, their music is consistent. They take different directions on each new project. The members of Shakatak have gone on to do solo cd’s, and still manage to get back together & release a new one.
Their latest project is “Afterglow, Groove me tonight” and is a testament to time. On this cd they are showcasing the r&b funk side more prominently, but still laced with jazzy elements. Shakatak has been one of my favorite jazz bands, that mixes everything musical into their songs.
