Streetwize
Sexy Love
Shanachie Records
By Terrill Hanna

Shanachie returns with flavor for the urban jazz ear, continuing the series of R&B currents & previous with Streetwize & its admiration for slowing things down with “Sexy Love”…

Kim Waters, & his crew kicks it ‘down’ a notch (like the ‘Slow Jamz’ album…) & recognized music from the contemporary/urban R&B side to be touched up instrumentally. From tracks like “Charlene”, “Promise”, & “Sexy Love”….young listeners may come to respect hearing their fav songs redone on a different approach.

This CD is very much in all fashion from the Streetwize series. It just changes angles, that’s all. For those of you who would love to hear R&B/Hip-Hop melodies get touched up by sax, trumpet, piano & guitar renditions, then this CD will not disappoint. In fact, while the sound of the bass (beat) is prevalent in urban R&B music, much of it is not passed up from this production line, that’s for sure!

I liked the way they covered “La La Means I Love You”. That one goes out to the Old School Lovers in the house. I found it to be one of my favorites on the CD, although label mate Phil Perry brought more flavor to the cover on his previous release, also on Shanachie…

Here is the complete song list:
— Sexy Love
— Lost Without You
— Heaven (Only Knows)
— Charlene
— Take Me As I Am
— Promise
— Change Me
— Pullin’ Me Back
— Say Goodbye
— La La Means I Love You

Again, if you still dig the R&B music receiving a jazzy remix, then this CD is for you!

See Ya’…
