Dijon – A Kid’s Point Of View

Once again I have had the extreme pleasure of having a cd come across my desk that is simply amazing. This one by a really young artist who goes by the name “Dijon”. At the influential age of 13, when other kids are on the brink of a wrong decision, Dijon has been blessed with the gift of music, and he is using it to the glory of God. Recorded on Zomba Records, the album is entitled “A Kids Point of View”, and appropriately so cause this kid has truly been through. In other words, this album is his testimony. Struggling with the effects of a broken home as well as adolescent peer pressure, Dijon has a way of ministering to others who have had to deal with the same situation, young and old. I know it made me reminisce about what it was like at that age.

Mixed with a little urban gospel influence Dijon has natural ability that comes shining through almost effortlessly throughout the entire album. Title track “A Kids Point of View” sets the tone for how he has had some heavy trials for being so young but that’s not the end of the story. “He Is Lord” screams urban gospel while Dijon tells us how he is an overcomer. This track bumps. Slow it down and give praise where it is due with “Worthy Lamb”. Beautiful song which to me showcases Dijon’s amazing range and true vocal ability. “You don’t know how much I love you…..just because you loved me first.” Now that’s “Real Love”. “My Potential” is the acknowledgment of the calling on his life along with the uncertainty of his direction. This track should inspire other youth leaders to step up their game to the next level to help the next generation get back on track. “Give Praise” is just what it says. Exciting and uplifting, Dijon sings like a veteran of the studio.

He who is without sin cast the first stone; this sets the stage for a one on one relationship with our Savior. “I Wanna Be More Like Him” talks all about it in this awesome track about what Jesus really means to Dijon. The next track encourages us to take a stand no matter how hard the “Pressures“. On “I Know Better”, Dijon sings of true reverence to God no matter what the cost. How comforting it is to know that “Jesus Knows” all about it. He’s a friend that sticks closer than a brother and that He will never leave or forsake us. And finally the album wraps up with a beautiful take on “How Great Is Our God”.

Let me assure you, don’t let Dijon’s youth fool you. This kid has serious skills; and since this is just the beginning keep your ears tuned for more form this young urban gospel phenom. All gospel has a way of ministering to you on some level, but this one will reach more than just the youth. As I stated earlier it made me reminisce and I am truly grateful for my one on one relationship with Jesus. This album is a must have for those who are struggling with getting their kids to listen to gospel. So go out an get it and be blessed. See you on th next one!
