Shanachie Entertainment along with Grammy winner producer Jason Miles on January
8, 2007 presented a special one off Soul music event. Jason Miles desire to work
with legendary session players Reggie Young (Wilson Pickett, Elvis Presley,
Dionne Warwick, Dusty Springfield), Bob Babbitt (Motown’s legendary Funk
Brothers), Steve Ferrone (Average White Band, Keb Mo, Tom Petty) created the
vision for incorporating this legendary rhythm section as the anchor for an
all-star jam session.

Kicking off with Jr. Walker’s “Shotgun” gets the soul-drenched, high energy
grooves moving which features the tenor saxophone of Tower of Power’s Richard
Elliott.  Incognito member Maysa does a tough rendition of “What A Man,” which
features Lenny Kravitz saxman Karl Denson.

Miles on the Hammond B3 leads the band with  two Dan Penn written songs “It
Tears Me Up”
and “Cold Snap,” featuring the vocals of Mike Mattison of the Derek
Trucks band.  Singer/songwriter and guitarist Susan Tedeschi performs a
heartfelt version of “It’s Raining” and a gritty version of “Son of a Preacher
Man”
which features Reggie Young reprising his guitar work from the original
Dusty Springfield classic.

Karl Denson returns playing flute on Herbie Mann’s classic “Memphis Underground”
with a solo by guitarist Sherrod Barnes and Reggie Young again playing his part
from the original.  Miles claims that “Herbie Mann was a great influence on me”
and includes “Memphis 2000″  which Miles and  Mann played on his 1996 CD “Mr. X.”

Concluding the show/CD with the showstopping “Godfather of Soul” James Brown
Medley which includes “I Feel Good/I Got The Feeling, Get Up-I Feel Like Being A
Sex Machine”.
Vocalists Maysa, Mike Mattison, Susan Tedeschi and tenor
saxophonist Richard Elliot bring home the goods with nice Hammond B3 by Mr.
Miles underlying throughout.

“Soul Summit” brings classic Soul Music with a modern sensibility and recording
method.  So Get Up Girl, I Want To Dance!
