Aretha Franklin – Jewels In the Crown/All Star Duets With The Queen

As an Aretha Franklin Fan, I really enjoyed Aretha’s latest release. I have to say though, 90% of this album is not new. I enjoyed this albums as if it was. I found myself questioning “When was this recorded? I don’t recall them recording this song together?” With that in mind, it helped me to put a few things in perspective, this is the queen of soul that I’m talking about. This album consists of who’s-who in the music industry, spanning over the last 25 years. Some of the tracks had been overlooked for whatever reason, but does not take away from what Aretha does when she decides to get down. Mrs Franklin is known as the Queen of Soul, however why must we stop there? This album shows that she can cross over into any genre pop, r&b, rock, gospel and the list continues.

While I have never been a big fan of American Idols’ Fantasia, however I found my self enjoying her singing with the Queen. The track is cool and I love the “girl talk” between the two. The song with John Legend has a wonderful retro feel to it and love the 1960-ish Soul/R&B feel to the riffs. Mary J. Blige and Aretha are incredible together and the two tracks here are great. I really enjoyed them. Overall I loved the album! It’s worth having in your collection!
