Randy Muller – Boom Chang Bang/Groovin’ U

Randy Muller was responsible for sweaty hits by Skyy (“Call Me,” “High”), B.T. Express (“Do It Till You’re Satisfied,” “Express”), Cameron (“Boogie’s Gonna Get Ya”), Charles Earland (“Let The Music Play”), Garnett Mimms (“What It Is”), and his own jam band Brass Construction (“Movin’,” “Changin’,” “Walkin’ The Line”), and now he has  released his first solo cd called  “Randy Muller Boom Chang Bang Groovin’ U”. If you have not heard this CD, it is off the hoooook! There are only a handful of Flutist’s out there, especially jazz flutists, but Randy did his thing with this CD. The first three tracks have that serious groove to it and he covers his own song “Call Me” with conviction.

The Heatwave song “Always and Forever” is covered by Randy and it is absolutely beautiful, especially playing it with a flute. The mid-tempo tracks “After Midnight”, “Standing In The Rain”, “Luvanova” (vocals by Nikki Rios), “Easy Love”(vocals by Sheila Slappy), & “Westchester Nights” will have your head bopping back and forth. “Bala” is a brazilian type track. Even though it’s jazz, it will have you doing the two step; also Randy shows his versatlilty here. “Hello” is another up-beat track. The last two tracks “Devotion” have more of an R&B beat to it, but Randy makes it work & D.J. Kenny Dope does a house mix to it as a bonus track.

There are few pleasures greater than hearing that your favorite sonic pilot has returned to burn. Your thoughts soar back to good times in humid clubs. And, as your mind rewinds the music man’s blazing singles of yesteryear, you easily remember when those songs were the soundtrack to your life.

Randy’s debut CD is beyond dull and cheesy. The CD also contributes textural depth to the genre that sustains countless stations. In the world of jazz, we have noticed a gaping hole in the smooth jazz radio format. As someone who enjoys the style instrumentally, it seemed to be dominated by sax, guitar and trumpet. The thing about this cd is – it has no reference to the sound of Skyy, Brass Construction or any of the groups he produced or written for. Each group had it’s own sound and that’s what I love about Randy’s cd. It has it’s own sound!

You can find this cd at www.dustygroove.com and at www.amazon.com. Also at CDBaby!
