Hil St. Soul – Black Rose

It’s always nice to receive a good sounding R&B project. Especially when there’s some out there that lacks emotional feel & passion, as well as production. Alongside the attribute of staying consistent with it. By releasing music that can be played back after moments time, well after several other albums from their discographies. Hilary Mwelwa & Hil St. Soul taps right into that perspective with the intriguing “Black Rose” from Shanachie Entertainment.

Track Listing:
~ Wash Away
~ Don’t Forget The Ghetto
~ Sweetest Days
~ Life
~ Gravity
~ We Were In Love
~ Broken Again
~ Black Rose
~ If I Was You
~ Hanging On
~ Smile

Please find a patio chair, a couch, a lounger, something comfortable to lean on or something…..your going to be in for a treat!

The album after “Soulidified” from 2006 & “Copasitik & Cool” (2004) keeps the same ingredients flowing, with enough soul in their name to represent it whenever they feel like it! No doubt, The 1st track “Wash Away” brings the tightness & flavor of Neo-soul to hindsight, with the everglowing Hilary Mwelwa caressing the harmonies & overall vocal approach. The grooveline will take you there! Check it..

Then you have wisdom & insight channeled perfectly in “Don’t Forget The Ghetto” (….’Just To Let You Know….’) with an inspiring message awaiting to reach our community. And trust me, its tight!; “Sweetest Days” slows the tempo down a little bit, but not too slow. Good enough to help you gather your listening span & get prepared to enjoy the rest of this well balanced package. It doesn’t stop when “Gravity” flows through your music system of choice.; “We Were In Love”, “Broken Again” & “Smile” grabbed the honorable “*” for immediate replay. The same goes for “If I Was You” (I turned the volume control up 5 notches on this one) & “Hanging On”.

Well….forget this: The WHOLE CD received the “*”!! No Holdin’ Back!!

You get the total feel from not only tasting the productive & harmonial stance of the CD, but the lyrics & messages are on full display. Vibin’ exquisitely, cool & strong. Well articulated & projected. With sprinkles of Jazz. That’s the essence of Hil St. Soul. I couldn’t turn off Hilary’s voice well after the review was completed. The CD is refreshing for R&B & lovers out there may come to dig this one.

Pick It Up!
