Jason Champion – Reflections

Former singer of hit R&B duo ‘Men At Large’,
Jason Champion
changes gears from secular music to Gospel with his
solo debut “Reflections”. The contemporary sounding flow of Gospel
touches off another side & perspective of Jason, as he takes his vocal skill
& share into a devotional, creative essence of beautiful
compositions.

Mr. Champion received help in the
production dept from Warren “Baby Dubb” Campbell & many others, as well as
co-wrote several tracks on the LP.

“Always” (hear song sample on our news page) jumps right into
the groove & words of encouragement. Uplifting message that may play on your
senses, especially with the current state of our economy & various trials
many of us face. Check out the lyrics;  “Find A Reason” drifts into a
reminder of keeping your self-esteem positive, regardless of daily pressures one
might face. And he sends the message over a nice mid-tempo’d beat & melody;
Michael Champion’s duet in “The Life” continues the powerful landscape of
keeping to the spirit of devotion & praise. The same is reached in
“Friend Of Mine”…

Check
out the old school approach, something to a sound of Motown legends, “Jackson
5”, in “For Better Or For Worse”. Mrs. Paula Champion is showcased to a
different feel for a Gospel Tune. I liked this one for many reasons, possibly
because of that old school flavor written all over it! Nevertheless, the song
spoke for itself. I especially marked “*” on “He Is The Way” – a special
slow ballad of praise & direction.

The rest of the CD was unique
& different from many, other Gospel projects out there today. Its more
contemporary & wholesome, with evidence of Jason Champion’s vocal,
songwriting talents taking center stage. I enjoyed his connection to “Men At
Large”
from the 90’s to the production credits of the late Gerald Levert
(& others). And to hear Mr. Champion’s vocal range highlight the Gospel
genre is quite refreshing. Good Job Brother Champion & I wish you Godspeed
on your new release.
