Spensha Baker – Outloud!

Young Spensha Baker gives Geffen Records plenty of reasons why to release her latest release, “Outloud!”. She shares her reflections of R&B vibed gospel tracks with an audience always on standby, awaiting to see who will come out next with another energetic & uplifting showers of praise music. For some it will not disappoint, for others, it may take a good minute. But as always advised, the judgment for great music to arrive your way is always up to YOU!

The opening song “Hallelujah” jumps immediately to worship praise & just about every gospel music dominant church may appreciate this one. Warren “Baby Dubb” is up to his production talents again; “Love Somebody” continues with a lot of R&B productive arrangements & a simplistic message of sharing the gift of Love with someone along the way, as expressed in her lyrics; “Outloud!” is in the same direction as the previous track, with R&B sprinkled heavily into the composition.

“Teach Me” actually slows down the vibe a little bit, allowing for Spensha’s voice to be recognized for what its worth. From there, you can get a feel for Ms. Bakers appeal.; “Strong Tower” provided us with a composition with complete instrumentation ranging from violins, strings, drums, guitars, background vocals, etc. And this may spring forth some fruit in acknowledging what Spensha has to offer down the line. She & her backup of special guests magnifies the presence of God’s name. The track ends up becoming one of my favorites!!! All you have to do is ask, “What Is His Name”?!! In fact, the song only lasted 3:30 seconds, after which you may be left to ask yourselves why didn’t she go further with it?

“Thank You For Not Answering” keeps up with the gospel serenade & is beautifully in pace & sync with another message of dependence upon the Lord. Anthony “Skip” Crawford lends his production support.; However, the classic Sounds Of Blackness hit “Optimistic” crept into the picture & we have another hot one on our hands! That was a great choice for a song selection from Spensha & her staff! Although I may fool around & drop the original on the wheels of steel directly! (Ha! – just kiddin’. Hey…THAT WAS THE JAM!!)

The remaining tracks were right on gear with the complete feel of the project.

The overall impact from listening to Ms. Bakers debut rests on these counts: The CD isn’t a total, all out of the park, traditional Gospel Album. Its another great mixture of Urban & Contemporary Gospel that relates or compares along the same lines as Tonex, Dietrick Haddon, Dave Hollister, etc. If you receive Gospel from that aspect, then get ready for something special from Spensha!
