G. John Martin – Black Ice

After a few listens, it was imperative I gave this CD a moment of my time. In an ever-increasing efflux of new R&B male vocalists entrenching the R&B scene, one cat that may stand out of them all is the vocal reach of G. John Martin. His latest release “Black Ice” stays on track with the Urban R&B listener, while it seduces the ear with honey dripping slow melodies & serenades.

“Baby Girl” opens up the project right on pace with a groove that is sure to leave a mark, an intention of where G. John is planning to take you – on a mid-current spell of love themes & upper paced songs.  Tracks “Black Ice”, “Hey Pretty Girl”, “Of Only You Know” & “Rock Me Baby” picks up the CD, the tempo & slides his vocal skills into a subjection the ladies may commit to. Many of those tracks relates to the street R&B beat productions. An accommodation G. John carefully orchestrates…

As stated, “‘Something Special” heads right back into the slow orient. Crooning out his ability to aim & please the lady. The honey. Reminding his girl of the special words & appreciation he would share within moments notice. Without being taken for granted. As the clock ticks, he headlines “Tick…Tick…Tock” for the after hours affair for 2. The Reservations are on standby.

The slow songs continue in “Quiet Time”, “Beg & Plead, “In Love Again” & the one that got the repeat button, “There’s No I In We”.

Just at a time when I was beginning to wonder where the slow crooners went, here comes Mr. Martin. Hanging in there to offer another option to the R&B genre. Many of those fast tracks were predictable, as for the many I have reviewed for The Urban Music Scene. But he made up for it on the slow cuts. With the harmonies, exceptional productions & overall vocal appeal, G. John Martin may have a hot one on his hands.
