Katisse Buckingham – Lyrical Worker

He is one of the hottest and most sought after independent/freelance Sax and Flute players in the Business. If you go back and read the review of Nude Continuum, you’ll see that I mentioned his name. Katisse Buckingham has played or recorded along side the Yellowjackets, Herbie Hancock, Dr Dre, Lionel Richie, and many more.

Katisse is a graduate of the L.A. County High School for the arts, and won the L.A. Jazz Society’s New Talent Award. He can be heard in the Will Ferrell movie “Anchorman” on the jazz flute scene. (and if you haven’t seen the movie rent it, it is too funny).

Katisse’s solo debut CD “Lyrical Worker” is a blend of hip-hop/contemporary/traditional jazz,  where he plays tenor, alto and soprano sax, flute and alto flute. Katisse produced the record along with Tony Shepperd (Take 6, Whitney Houston), who assumed recording and mixing duties as well.

With tracks like “Just Listen”, “Higher Power”, “Isolated”, “Blinds Man’s Bluff”, “Pearls”, “Fame Buffett”, “Invincible”, & “Incantation” will get your head nodding. Katisse raps on these songs, but you can understand the message he is conveying, and the vocals are done by Kate Higgins, Judith Hill and Corei Taylor.

The mid-tempo to torch songs are “Miles Left”, “The Darkness”, “Honor Among Thieves”, & “Before The Dawn”. I like the Balance of songs where he plays the flute and some songs where he plays sax.

This is a very inviting cd and it should not be overlooked for your collection.
