Kim
Burrell, what can I say, the back of the CD cover says “Kim Burrell
combines the dazzling virtuosity of a great jazz singer with the
spiritual power of gospel, transforming classic gospel songs into
uniquely personal spiritual expressions”.
I agree.  I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Kim’s unique style, compositions and arrangements are remarkable.  She has taken flight and given Gospel a new name or should I say a jazzier feel.  I never thought jazz and Gospel could come together and make such a powerful impact.

She starts off scatting to an old Stevie Wonder classic, Sir Duke and jumps right into the next track, Happy, setting the stage to captivate and croon you into her world of “jazz praise”.  No Ways Tired is the beginning of that jazz feeling.  The tracks to follow are more mellow, a steady flow, that guides you along from track to track.  They start to get more personal and powerful.  I Surrender All and My Faith Looks Up To Thee are my favorite songs on the CD.  You can feel the faith and love that she has for the Lord.

All in all I think this is a great CD.  I love the combination of jazz and gospel.  Kim Burrell is an awesome vocalist and I can’t wait to see what’s next.
