Melvin M. Miller – In The Moment

In 1977, I heard this wonderful tune, “Feels So Good”, by Chuck Mangione in a record store while shopping for LPs. With no hesitation, I purchased the “Feels So Good” LP and discovered a great find. Well.. I just had a thirty two year flashback when I heard Melvin’s rendition of this wonderful classic with sultry vocals. Melvin’s sound is so clean and crisp, that it makes you want more and more when you get into this eleven track cd.

When I first spoke with Melvin about the cd, I mentioned that the format of my radio show ‘Mellow Madness’ is filled with romantic and meditating selections. His reply was… “you will have on problems with my cd” and that was well spoken. TLC’s “Red Light Special” and Keith Washington’s “Kissing You” are selections you will want to have playing during the special hours with your better half (know what I mean?). Usher is also in the mix with “Say Yes”. Melvins’ trumpet just flows on this track (Butter). The vocals are amazing on the entire cd – Thanks to Chanda Leigh, Ashanti Wardell, Bobby Valentino and Jon Roberts.

Melvin goes south of the boarder with the title selection “In The Moment”. I love the blend of his trumpet and the Spanish guitar played by Eric Essix. Next up is “Intimate Conversation”. Melvin shows off his writing skills with this dreamy instrumental, featuring Michael on Alto Sax. I am convinced that this has to be my #1 discovery for the 2009 summer. To wrap things up, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Janet Jackson, EWF and Kenneth Edmonds covers are a part of this great sounding cd. “In The Moment” is a great buy!
