BlackRoots Unlimited, what can I say about them? This is their 5th project and they are getting better and better after every release. Their latest album “12wleve Funktions of Nu’Jazz” is exactly that. This collection of grooves is what I call a design cd. A design cd is a concept that focuses on a event or something in mind. This cd is focusing for the after work crowd, where the music is not too fast nor too slow. Enough to get you through traffic and wind you down at the same time. It has a consistent groove throughout the disc, starting with “Friday-5pm (out of office-autoreply)”. The groove just continues on to “PercFUNKssionDiscFUNKssion (@ the café’)”. It’s just fluid the way this cd comes off. Here are the other grooves this project possesses.

“Dreaming (of chillin’), Afro Chantin’ (and Funkin), Just Chill (and you will heal), It Ain’t Nothing’ (if it ain’t gat that swing), Time Alone (swing that thing), Fragile (handle with care), Mund’omwo (BakisiimbaJazzin), Cruisin’ not Brusin’ (make love not war), Be Cool (like amp Fiddler), Fretless (respect Pino Palladino), & One Moment In Time (for you daddy)”.

Another great album by BlackRoots Unlimited, and I hope to hear more from them in the future and I know I will.
