Vivian Male | Our Day Will Come

Listen to “Walk On By” from the “Our Day Will Come” project on our New Voices of Today Page by clicking here!!

By all means, Ms. Vivian Male has a splendid voice not yet heard across the planet. And it should be. Her versatility to create vocal magic for genre’s such as R&B & Jazz for the mature adult contemporary or traditional format, is dynamic. An essential singer who doesn’t seem to compromise the spirit of music with today’s given slate of popular pop/soul music. In listening to Ms. Males’ first solo-soothing collection of songs called “Our Day Will Come”, it’s nice to embrace another vocalist who is taking bold steps to keep the torch burning for basic Rhythm & Blues. Of all of the 10 tracks composed, of which a great vary appeals to an offset of memorable covers, one component that stuck out entirely is the genuine, tranquil, sultry effect Vivian’s vocals left as her signature.

“For The Love Of You” opens up the disc with a memory to the classic hit from The Isley Brothers & to the power of what a slow jam can do – Ms. Male’s incomparable vocals radiates; “Our Day Will Come” highlights Vivian’s vocal style to a jazzy movement of sorts. Produced well along side the elements of piano & saxophone solos. Quite cozy & eloquent.; “When I’m Gone” expands on Vivian’s’ vocal ability to reach various heights, musical notes with ease.

“Walk On By” expressed itself with a touch of the quiet storm again, while “I’m So Proud” keeps the ambiance free-flowing. “We’ve Got It” does open itself to an updated feel for todays’ contemporary soul, as does “The Look of Love”, “Lovin’ You”, “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do” & the remaining tracks.

Despite the difference of appeal this project offers soul music listeners everywhere and for all age groups, it simply may stand as a collection of favorable love songs ‘from the day’ touched on by a wonderful vocalist with a studious approach. Especially given the background & accomplishments Ms. Male has achieved on the sidelines – Founding Member of the Museum of African American History’s Legacy Society, as well as served on numerous Boards & Commissions in her long-standing career. And on top of that, Ms. Male recently was inducted into the Boston “Steppin’ Out” Hall of Fame with the legend of jazz guitar, George Benson….and so on.

There was moments as to which I wished more original compositions/material would begin to surface throughout the playback. Perhaps knowing that many of these classic R&B gems are recognizable, may be the ‘starter kit’ if you will, she needs to break out & get instant notice. Vivian is a very talented & skilled performer. Hopefully an opportunity will be given to create more originals for the 2nd album and we’ll begin to really see the potential.
