London Jones | For You

London Jones | For You
Silas Records (1994)
by Peggy Oliver

It was twenty-five years ago when a promising singer/songwriter/producer entered the R&B market. London Jones was signed to Silas Records which resulted in his one and only recording from 1994, For You. Whether Jones was possibly being lost in the much populated New Jack Swing shuffle with Keith Sweat and Mary J. Blige or because of other unforeseen circumstances, Jones still possessed a pleasing set of tenor pipes. Backed by a prolific supporting cast including Melvin Riley (Ready for the World), Angela Winbush (Rene & Angela), and D’Wayne Wiggins (Tony! Toni! Toné!), Jones’ own vocal arrangements throughout For You are impressively demonstrated on the funky mid tempo jams and the romantic ballads.

For You only registered one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 R&B Singles “Joi”, that remained on the charts for nine weeks but one of the more popular tracks, “I Lust 4 U” was also featured on the House Party 2 Soundtrack. Other standout moments on For You belong to “You Said,” “Over and Over”, “Love Means We” and “What Makes A Man.” While For You did not break major musical ground, there were still glimpses of what Jones could have achieved within his own solo platform. Four out of five stars.
