The Return of Boney James!

Do you have “Funky Christmas”? If so, then you will already know the matter at heart as to when Boney brings the rhythm to the beat. His sax approach carries heavy R&B overtones & often highlight or ‘energizes’ a smooth jazz genre to the respect of contemporary jazz. His “Shine” album was reviewed here on T.U.M.S. & has done well on Billboards Contemporary Jazz chart. As for his “Christmas Present”.

Of the 17 minutes I heard from the Hidden Beach label’s sampler, I’m very pleased to state that Jill Scott’s album is going to be another hot one!

The sampler didn’t have track listings, but for the flow & direction that disc sent me, it indicates she has groove on the groove patrol for listeners in the neo-soul world. Not to mention, the strength in melodies orchestrated from her production team came strong! No doubt.

Shanachie returns with flavor for the urban jazz ear, continuing the series of R&B currents & previous with Streetwize & its admiration for slowing things down with “Sexy Love”…

Kim Waters, & his crew kicks it ‘down’ a notch (like the ‘Slow Jamz’ album…) & recognized music from the contemporary/urban R&B side to be touched up instrumentally. From tracks like “Charlene”, “Promise”, & “Sexy Love”….young listeners may come to respect hearing their fav songs redone on a different approach.

All the way from Dover Kent, England comes another soul singer with a rich tradition of stirring up great music. Her 1sr two cd’s were under the direction of singing siren Betty Wright. At the age of 14, Jocelyn Eve Stoker appeared on the BBC Show ‘Star for a Night.’ At 15, she flew from London to New York to audition for S-Curve CEO Steve Greenberg and the rest is her-story.

Sunshine returns to give some ‘daylight’ in the Midnight Hour with “Sunshine At Midnight”. Here, Ms. Anderson deals a deck of cards for the Urban R&B genre with tracks sounding quite similar in taste to her recent release. Although, she doesn’t disappoint, some of them may need to be heard twice, possibly 3 times, to grasp a total feel for the direction of her musical flows…
